Contact Lens Exams in Alpharetta, GA

Want contacts, or new ones? Book a contact lens exam, not just a glasses exam. Reimbold Eye Group in Alpharetta fits contacts for patients from Alpharetta, Roswell, Johns Creek, Milton and Cumming.

Why a contact lens exam is separate

A glasses prescription and a contact lens prescription are not the same. Glasses sit about half an inch from your eyes. Contacts sit on the tear film. The numbers often differ, and the fit matters as much as the power.

A contact lens exam adds the fitting steps a glasses-only visit skips. We measure the shape of the front of the eye, choose a lens design, and check how the lens sits when you blink. We also plan follow-up so small changes can be made before you order a full year of lenses.

What a contact lens fitting covers

A contact lens fitting is separate from the glasses part of an eye exam. It usually covers:

  • Measuring your eyes for lenses
  • Trying one or more lenses
  • Checking how they sit and how you see
  • Follow-up visits

What's included varies by insurance plan, so ask us what yours covers.

Bring your current lenses or the boxes if you wear contacts now. If you are new to contacts, plan extra time for training on insertion, removal and care.

Lenses we fit

For children whose prescription keeps climbing, we also discuss myopia control options on our myopia management page. DreamSculpt Ortho-K helps slow myopia. It does not stop or cure it.

Kids and contacts

At the first fitting, your child gets one-on-one training to put lenses in and take them out, plus lens care and hygiene tips.

We go at the child's pace. Many kids do well with daily lenses because there is no case to clean. Others are better suited to Ortho-K or soft myopia-control lenses after a full exam. We will tell you which options fit your child. We will not push a lens that is not a good match.

Insurance

We accept all vision plans and most major medical plans. We do not accept Medicaid.

Vision plans often help with a yearly exam and a contact lens allowance. Medical plans may apply for medically necessary specialty lenses. For scleral coverage questions, see our Scleral Lens Insurance & Appeals FAQ and our main insurance page.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a contact lens exam, not just a glasses exam?

A contact lens exam adds fitting, measurements and follow-up that a glasses-only exam does not include. Contacts sit on the eye, so we check how they move, how clear you see and how the eye surface looks with the lenses on.

What types of contacts do you fit?

We fit daily lenses; multifocal lenses with trial lenses you can try right away; scleral, hybrid and rigid gas permeable lenses for keratoconus and hard-to-fit eyes; and DreamSculpt Ortho-K for nearsighted kids and adults.

Does insurance cover a contact lens fitting?

We accept all vision plans and most major medical plans. We do not accept Medicaid. What a fitting includes varies by plan, so ask us what yours covers.

Can kids get contact lenses?

Yes. At the first fitting, your child gets one-on-one training to put lenses in and take them out, plus lens care and hygiene tips.

What is DreamSculpt Ortho-K?

DreamSculpt Ortho-K is overnight contact lens wear that reshapes the front of the eye while you sleep so you can see during the day without daytime lenses. For kids and teens with myopia, it also helps slow myopia. It does not stop or cure myopia.
