An Optometrist for Johns Creek Families

Reimbold Eye Group is in Alpharetta, just west of Johns Creek, at 4180 Old Milton Pkwy, Suite 1-D. Many of our patients live in Johns Creek, and for most of them we are a short drive away. We do comprehensive eye exams for adults and kids, fit contact lenses, including for hard-to-fit eyes, and help children whose nearsightedness keeps getting worse.

Getting here from Johns Creek

From Johns Creek City Hall on Lakefield Drive, it is about 5 miles and roughly 11 minutes without traffic. Take Medlock Bridge Road (GA-141) to State Bridge Road and head west toward Old Milton Parkway. From Newtown Park, it is about 5 miles and roughly 10 minutes by Old Alabama Road, Jones Bridge Road and State Bridge Road. From the Emory Johns Creek Hospital area, it is about 4 miles by Jones Bridge Road and Kimball Bridge Road.

We are open Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, so a school-age child's exam does not have to mean missing class. Weekday hours are Tuesday to Thursday 10 am to 6 pm and Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

Eye exams for Johns Creek kids

A child's prescription changes more during the school years than at any other time in life. That is why we recommend an exam every year once children start school. We also recommend at least one exam between 8 and 14 months and at least one between ages 3 and 5. At a child's exam we check visual acuity with letters, numbers or pictures, eye alignment, depth perception, color vision, eye movements and focusing, and the health of the front and back of the eye. We adapt each exam to the child. Read about pediatric eye exams.

Watch for squinting, head turning, holding books or tablets very close, red or crusted eyelids, or an eye that turns. Any of these is a good reason to book a visit before the next school year starts.

Slowing nearsightedness: MiSight and DreamSculpt

If your child needs a stronger prescription every year, ask about myopia control. Reimbold Eye Group is an approved CooperVision MiSight 1 day center. MiSight is a soft daily contact lens that is FDA-approved to slow myopia in children who start wearing it between ages 8 and 12.

We also fit DreamSculpt Ortho-K, custom lenses worn overnight. Most DreamSculpt wearers don't need glasses or contacts during the day, which many swimmers and athletes like.

For children who aren't ready for contacts, we discuss myopia-control glasses and low-dose atropine. Program costs and what each one includes are listed on our Myopia Management Program page. We also measure axial length, the length of the eye, as part of myopia management.

What a visit is like for your family

From the moment your family walks through our door, our team takes time to get to know each of you. Our goal is simple: you should feel comfortable with your care and understand it. We check eye pressure on every patient, and every exam includes corneal topography, retinal (fundus) photos and an OCT scan of the optic nerve. We also have OCT angiography (OCTA), a scan of the tiny blood vessels in the back of the eye, which most optometrists don't own.

After the scans, the doctor goes through every image with you, so you can see what we see.

Our staff are trained to read OCT scans too.

The imaging carries an annual $39 fee that insurance doesn't pay.

We accept all vision plans and most major medical plans, but we do not accept Medicaid.

Most patients are dilated every 2 to 3 years, or yearly or sooner if an eye condition needs it.

Kids (and plenty of adults) worry about picking the "wrong" lens. Dr. Reimbold makes sure each patient feels confident in their answers, and she confirms the prescription by showing one step stronger and one step weaker, which should both look blurry.

When it's time for glasses, we ask what your child loves to do and help choose frames that fit their life.

Every lens is edged in our own lab, and every pair gets a triple-check inspection before it goes home.

Care for the whole family

Parents and grandparents get the same thorough exam, with retinal photos and corneal topography every year. When an exam shows more than a prescription change, we can usually handle it here:
